Palliative care recognises that we all have
a right to say what care we would like and for those wishes, wherever possible,
to be respected. It upholds the belief
that we should not be forced to undergo any treatment against our will and
should be consulted wherever possible in the choices that are made regarding
our care.
Many ethical issues arise in the management
of people with final stage Parkinson’s and there are guidelines in place so
that the agreed practices are followed by the care team in each individual
case. Ethical frameworks vary from
country-to-country, even region-to-region, so it is advisable to talk to the
family doctor or other members of the multidisciplinary team to get more
information on local guidelines.
