Cogentin® is an anticholinergic medication used for the treatment of drug-induced parkinsonism, akathisia and acute dystonia, Parkinson disease and idiopathic or secondary dystonia. Benztropine is used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease to reduce the side effects of certain antipsychotic medicines.

Benztropine injection works by reducing the stiffness and abnormal movements. In tablet form it was also used to treat Parkinson's disease but tablets are no longer available in the UK - Cogentin® is available on named patient basis through treatment centres from specialist importing companies.
