Parkinson's Decision Aid
Facing the future
- Where can I get more information, support and hear other peoples’ experiences?
- How can I find more information about cell transplants and stem cells?
- Are there any research projects on Parkinson's disease being conducted that I could participate in?
- What is my life expectancy?
- Can I leave my brain for medical research and how can I make arrangements for this?
- How long can I live independently with no help from others?
- Will I end up in a wheel chair?
- Will I lose my faculties and can this be prevented by mental exercises such as sudoko and reading?
- Will I end up in a Nursing Home or Home for old people?
- When I get to the stage where I can no longer live independently, will my wife/partner/family/friend get the help they need?
- Will future help be expensive and who will pay for it?
- My partner is supportive but very stressed. How can help be provided? Who should be contacted?
- Can I stay at home until I die or must I go to a hospital/hospice?
- I have heard about Palliative care but do not know much about this. How can I find out more?
- I have heard that some people with Parkinson's find it difficult to swallow and need a special tube inserted for feeding. Does this work well? Can a tube be inserted without my permission? Can I refuse it?
- Can I make a will declaring that I do not wish to have any feeding tubes?
- Will I die from Parkinson's. How I die and will it be painful?
